What to discuss at an evaluation
Tell your clinician when the pain began, whether it followed an injury, and what makes it better or worse. Mention any pain, numbness, tingling or weakness in your arm or hand, and any previous treatment.
Your clinician can discuss examination findings and appropriate next steps. Treatment decisions depend on your individual situation; a website cannot determine the cause of your pain.
When to seek urgent help
Do not wait for a routine appointment if neck pain follows an injury and you cannot move your arm or hand. Call 911. Neck stiffness with fever and a severe headache also needs urgent medical attention.
